LOS ANGELES — A single act of care can bring warmth to a family, and a day of service can make a lasting difference in a community.
In recognition of Healthy Aging Month and World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, the 4th Annual “Happy Health Day” Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine Community Health Fair was successfully held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Santa Anita Family YMCA in Monrovia, California.
From early in the morning, healthcare professionals, medical students, youth volunteers, and community partners came together with one shared purpose: to bring health education, compassionate care, and meaningful support directly to the community.
Residents of different ages, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds attended the event and received free health consultations and related services. More than simply a health fair, the day became a gathering of medical expertise, youth leadership, community service, and human connection.
Healthcare Professionals and Students Working Side by Side
This year’s event brought together 20 Chinese and Western medicine healthcare professionals, 15 medical students, and more than 20 youth volunteers.
Free services included health consultations, preliminary health assessments, chronic disease education, and Traditional Chinese Medicine constitution assessments.
Areas of focus included chronic disease management, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health, stroke prevention and rehabilitation, neurological conditions, neck, shoulder, back, leg, and joint pain, women’s health, pediatric and adolescent health, digestive and internal medicine concerns, as well as sleep and emotional wellness.
For many community members, the event offered more than access to free health services. It provided an opportunity to speak directly with healthcare professionals, better understand their own health, and learn practical approaches to disease prevention and long-term wellness.
Local Elected Officials Join in Supporting Community Health
Several Southern California elected officials attended the event and presented certificates of recognition, including Monrovia Mayor Becky A. Shevlin, Monrovia Councilmember Larry J. Spicer, Walnut Councilmember Allen Wu, and San Gabriel Councilmembers John Wu and Jorge Herrera Avila.
Their presence reflected the importance local communities place on public health, volunteer service, and civic engagement.
Behind Every Successful Community Event Is a Team of Dedicated People
A community health event of this scale is made possible not only by those seen serving on the day of the event, but also by the many individuals who contribute their time and effort behind the scenes.
The event received strong support and participation from leaders of numerous community, medical, and educational organizations, including APAPA-PCC President Yongping Chen and Board Member Chao Huang; Alhambra Medical University Directors Jian-Yuan Jiang and Liying Li; AMU Clinic Director Yuling Zhu and Manager Wen Jing; Health Earth Association President Huiling Shan, Secretary-General Hongzhen Zhu, former President Ping Xie, and Los Angeles Chapter President Pingrong Gu; Alhambra Medical University Alumni Association (AMUAA) President Guodong Zhang and Vice President He Li; AMU Student Union Vice President Man-Wei Tseng; and former AMU Student Union President Xiaobei Hu.
From early planning and community outreach to medical coordination, volunteer organization, venue preparation, and on-site operations, every part of the event represented the combined efforts of many individuals and organizations.
They came from different professional and cultural backgrounds, but shared one simple goal: to bring health, compassion, and service closer to the people who need them.
Youth Service Brings a New Generation into Community Leadership
One of the most inspiring parts of this year’s Happy Health Day was the strong participation of young volunteers.
High school and college students, along with Scouts, could be seen throughout the venue assisting with preparation, setup, guest guidance, on-site services, and event coordination.
Kayson Tang was among the key youth volunteers supporting the event.
Calista Zhang (Qianrui Zhang) and Abbey Strickland, both from Arcadia High School, served as event emcees, bringing confidence, energy, and a youthful spirit to the program.
Youth volunteers from Boy Scouts of America Troop 832 and Troop 125 also played an active role. Under the organization and coordination of Sheldon Wright and Michelle Zhang, the Scouts assisted with venue setup, guest guidance, and event operations.
For these young volunteers, the experience was about more than completing a service assignment. It was an opportunity to learn firsthand the meaning of responsibility, teamwork, compassion, and service to others.
When medical professionals and young people serve side by side, community service takes on an even deeper meaning: one generation serves today while helping inspire the next generation to serve tomorrow.
Bringing Traditional Chinese Medicine into the Community
Happy Health Day also seeks to make Traditional Chinese Medicine and integrative healthcare more accessible and understandable to residents from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Through direct interaction with healthcare professionals, community members had an opportunity to learn more about the role of Chinese medicine and integrative health approaches in disease prevention, chronic disease management, wellness promotion, and everyday health maintenance.
Health has no ethnic boundaries, and compassion should have no barriers of language or culture.
By bringing healthcare professionals outside the clinical setting and directly into the community, Happy Health Day aims to make health education and preventive care more approachable while creating connections among people from different backgrounds through the shared goal of healthier lives.
Four Years of Service — and a Commitment That Continues
From its first year to its fourth, Happy Health Day has grown into more than an annual community health event. It represents an ongoing commitment to service.
When one healthcare professional gives a few more hours, one medical student helps another family, one young volunteer offers another helping hand, and one community organization contributes its resources, those individual acts may seem small.
Together, however, they create something much greater.
They create a community in which people care for one another.
The organizers hope that more healthcare institutions, educational organizations, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community groups will join future Happy Health Day events, allowing this spirit of service to continue growing and reaching more families.
A truly caring community is not defined only by where people live. It is defined by what happens when someone needs help — and others are willing to step forward.
As the 4th Annual Happy Health Day came to a close, the message of the event remained simple:
Bring health into the community.
Connect people through compassion.
Pass the spirit of service from one generation to the next.
That is the heart of Happy Health Day, and the commitment its organizers hope to carry forward for many years to come.

After the pandemic, healthcare has become even more urgent. The Asian Pacific Islander Public Affairs Association (APAPA) -Pacific Coast Chapter (PCC) , Health Earth Association, I Am Media International Inc., and IVISION Consulting Group have joined forces to organize the "Happy Health Day" event in Arcadia City. They have gained immediate response from 20 doctors from Health Earth Association, and even the president, Xie Ping, made a special trip from Oklahoma to participate!
The lineup of doctors for this free clinic consultation is incredibly professional, with over 12 doctors holding doctoral degrees. There are also renowned Chinese medicine practitioners, the clinical department director of Alhambra Medical University , and several doctoral professors who have volunteered to provide assistance. This has made the free clinic consultation highly acclaimed and the phone lines for appointments were flooded a week in advance.
Through this event, we hope to promote the positive energy of mutual assistance among the Chinese community and provide accurate and beneficial health care knowledge. Furthermore, we aim to showcase the profound traditional Chinese medicine and gain recognition and support from more people.
